Acquired: 1509 (by inheritance)
Kempton Manor was acquired by the Crown in the mid-thirteenth century, and a two-storey timber house built on the site. The house was demolished in 1374, although a lodge for hunting appears to have remained. Little is known about the form of this lodge, and during Henry VIII’s reign, records do not detail particulars, only general maintenance to the property, which appears to have continued as a hunting preserve.
