Acquired: 1538
When the Dominican friary of Guildford was dissolved in 1538, Henry VIII constructed a hunting lodge on its grounds. The Henrician hunting lodge at Guildford should not be confused with the royal castle of Guildford, which was not used after the fourteenth century.
Inigo Jones rebuilt the site in the seventeenth century. The area was excavated in 1973–78, but no remains of the site aboveground are visible today.
