Acquired: 1509 (by inheritance)
A possession of the Duchy of Cornwall, Henry VIII inherited this property and in 1539 annexed it to the Honour of Hampton Court. Before that time, in 1529–30, he had enlarged the fifteenth-century manor house on the property with the addition of a parlour, two great chambers, a kitchen with a chamber above it, a cellar with two chambers over it, a little chamber over the kitchen, and other new buildings.
The house was greatly rebuilt in the seventeenth century and has appeared frequently in film and television.
