Henry acquired this house by a (forced) trade with Archbishop Cranmer, shortly before the king’s death, likely because it was conveniently located between Leeds castle and Canterbury. The king had already visited the house more than once as a guest of Archbishop Warham. But no alterations to the buildings appear to have been carried out, and the estate was let out to farm. Several of the palace structures were later adapted as farm buildings.
