Acquired: ca. 1538–9
A fortified moated site, the manor of Leconfield originally belonged the Percy family. The estate was purchased by the earl of Northumberland and exchanged with the Crown in 1538 (or possibly 1535, according to Weir). He appears to have stayed at the house during the northern progress of 1541, but no records survive to indicate construction work there.
Descriptive documents refer to a timber framed house and brick gatehouse set around a central courtyard. Earthwork remains exist on the site, but the house was in a ruinous state by the early seventeenth century, and soon after, much of it was torn down.
